John Williams will score Star Wars: Episode VIII and Indiana Jones 5, the composer has confirmed.
Speaking about Star Wars: Episode VIII, Williams said to Variety, "If I can do it, I certainly will. I told [producer] Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley."
Williams returned to score Star Wars: Episode VII after last helming 2005's Star Wars: Episode III. Williams received an Oscar nomination for his work on the record-breaking 2015 sequel.
Last night at the American Film Institute's tribute to Williams, frequent collaborator Steven Spielberg said to Access Hollywood's Scott Mantz that the 84-year-old composer will return to another franchise that he helped shape.
Williams scored all seven Star Wars episodes and the four Indiana Jones movies. He wrote some new tunes for Spielberg's The BFG coming out July 1. In November, he does Ready Player One for Spielberg which will then be followed by Star Wars 8 next year, according to Variety.
Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released in December 2017 and Indiana Jones 5 will come July 2019.
