Samuel L. Jackson was recognized for his monumental career at the BET Awards on Sunday.
Director Spike Lee (who directed Jackson on School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues, Jungle Fever, Oldboyand Chi-Raq) presented the award to the legendary actor calling him "one of the greatest actors on this god's planet."
"I want to thank everybody in here and in the world that's ever bought a ticket, a video, or a DVD with my ass in it," Jackson said on stage with a big smile.
He also commented on Jesse Williams' emotional speech from earlier in the night when the Grey's Anatomy actor got the crowd on their feet after he was presented with a Humanitarian Award.
"Jesse is the closest thing I've ever heard to a 1960's activist," Jackson said at the end of his speech. He also referenced the Brexit situation overseas as he spoke about the need to vote. "That brother is right and he is true and when you hear what he said make sure you vote and take eight more people with you to vote, okay, so we can fix this. Don't get tricked like they got tricked in London."
Jackson is best known for playing Jules in Pulp Fiction, Nick Fury in the Marvel movies and Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He's also appeared in popular films such as Goodfellas, Jurassic Park, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Unbreakable, The Incredibles, Snakes on a Plane, Django Unchained, and Kingsman: The Secret Service. He next appears in The Legend of Tarzan coming out on July 1 before playing the villain in Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children set for release on September 30. The 67-year-old will then be seen in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage in January and Kong: Skull Island in March.
