Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin was killed early Sunday morning in a freak accident. He was 27.
Entertainment Weekly noted that law enforcement officials said he died on June 19, in what is being called a “fatal traffic collision.”
Yelchin’s rep confirmed the tragic news to People saying, "His family requests you respect their privacy at this time."
The actor was supposed to meet friends on Sunday and when he did not show they became worried and went to check on him at his Studio City home. He was found in his driveway pinned between his car and a brick mailbox pillar, which was attached to a security gate. It is believed that Yelchin’s car was not in park but rather neutral and it rolled when he walked around the back of it and ended up trapping him. He was pronounced dead 1:10 a.m. local time.
In addition to his role in the Star Trek reboots, Yelchin was also featured in many films such as Like Crazy and Alpha Dog as well as several TV shows including ER, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
