Disney announced a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph in a video featuring John C. Reilly that was streamed live on their Facebook page.
The video has the original film's director, Rich Moore, bringing out the first film's co-writer, Phil Johnston, to announce they are directing a new feature together. Right before they announce their project, Reilly pops out looking mighty dapper in a blue suit and Wreck-It Ralph hands to confirm the project is a sequel to the 2012 blockbuster.
Not much was actually revealed about the plot, other than the smallest detail from Reilly.
"It's top secret, but I'll tell you this much," Reilly said. "Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the internet."
In addition to the video, Disney also posted a lawyer-friendly slice of concept art on their Facebook page that can be viewed below.
The Wreck-It Ralph sequel is slated for March 9, 2018. Disney originally had their animated Jack and the Beanstalk movie, Gigantic, slated for that date. That film has now been moved to Nov. 21, 2018.
Moore recently co-directed Zootopia for Disney, which was also co-written by Johnston. The Wreck-It Ralph sequel will be Johnston's feature directorial debut.
While Sarah Silverman's character, Vanellope, is confirmed to be in the movie, there's no word if the actress will be back for the role. It's also unknown if other characters from the first film, like Jack McBrayer's Fix-It Felix or Jane Lynch's Sergeant Calhoun, will return. Alan Tudyk, Mindy Kaling and Ed O'Neill also portrayed characters in the original film. Reilly is the only confirmed cast member for the sequel.
Wreck-It Ralph was released in November 2012 and went on to gross $471.2 million at the worldwide box office. The movie received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature, but lost to Pixar's Brave.
Wreck-It Ralph isn't the only Disney animation getting a theatrically-released sequel. A sequel to Frozen is also in development.
