Broadway patriarch James Nederlander has passed away at age 94.

According to Playbill, he passed away on July 25. Nederlander was the Chairman of the Nederlander Organization, which owns nine Broadway theaters.

His son James L. Nederlander, who is the President of his father’s organization, said “He was my best friend and partner in every aspect of our business. We collaborated every day. The world has lost one of its great impresarios.”

Nederlander’s father, David Nederlander, began the business and his son began working in the box office by 1940.

He soon began working as a producer since they did not have any shows to work with.

TheWrap reported in 1946, he purchased the Palace Theater, which is located in Manhattan. They own multiple theaters now, including Gershwin and the Broadway Playhouse to name a few.

He is survived his wife Charlene, a son, a stepdaughter and grandchildren.
