HBO has released the premiere date for Game of Thrones.
The seventh season of the hit show will air in summer 2017 and will only run for seven episodes, TheWrap reported.
This is line with a previous comment from the show’s creator that the show had only 13 hours left.
Airing in the summer will also mean the show will miss the Emmy period.
In a statement, HBO programming president Casey Bloys said “Now that winter has arrived on ‘Game of Thrones,’ executive producers David Benoiff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing.”
Weiss and Benoiff had said in a podcast they wanted to delay shooting since they needed the weather to be uglier to accommodate for the winter weather seen at the end of season six.
Before season seven, the show premiered in the spring with all of them airing in April. However, the third season premiered at the end of March, as previously reported.
