Actor, Heath Ledger passed away over eight years ago in New York City after he took a mix of dangerous prescription drugs. In a recent interview his father, Kim Ledger, stated that was in fact, "totally his fault."

Kim told Daily Mail Australia that his son was the person who reached for and took the drugs.

"He put them in his system," Ledger's 66-year-old father stated. "You can't blame anyone else in that situation."

Heath's sister, Katie, had even warned her brother on the phone of how dangerous mixing painkillers and sleeping tablets were the night before he had tragically passed.

However, the "Brokeback Mountain" actor assured his sibling that he was fine and told her "I know what I'm doing."

The Dark Knight actor was found unconscious on Jan. 22, 2008, by his housekeeper in his bed. He was pronounced dead shortly after by a team of paramedics.

His autopsy report showed traces of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamin. This combination meant his death was accidental.

Kim spoke out to warn others of how dangerous prescribed painkillers actually are. His son was prescribed such drugs due to his very demanding shooting schedules.

"There's so much pressure on them to perform," Kim said. "So even though your body is telling you that it's not good and needs time, it's like 'just take these painkillers and keep going.'
