It's been nearly a decade since we have seen The Joker wreak havoc on the city of Gotham. However, Jared Leto will be the remedy to this as he brings the menacing clown back to the big screen in Warner Brothers' Suicide Squad.
In an interview for Rolling Stone, Leto opened up about how he personified the iconic character. He also acknowledged Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight; the movie that won Ledger a posthumous Academy Award.
"Heath did an impeccable, perfect performance as the Joker," Leto raved about Ledger's portrayal of Batman's nemesis. "It's one of the best performances ever in cinema."
The Oscar winner also divulged his process in embodying the troubling character.
"The Joker is incredibly comfortable with acts of violence. I was watching real violence, consuming that. There’s a lot you can learn from seeing it," he said. "Not every act of violence is committed with frenzy, either. It’s methodical and sometimes even hypnotic and deliberate.”
In addition to Ledger, Leto joins the company of Jack Nicholson and Mark Hamill in depicting the classic character.
