Free-agent forward Jared Sullinger agreed to a deal with the Toronto Raptors on Monday, July 11.
Sullinger had a qualifying offer from the Boston Celtics, but they rescinded the offer so that they could sign Al Horford to a four-year, $113 million contract. The Celtics rescinding the offer made him a free agent and he agreed to a one-year deal with the Raptors that is believed to be in the $6 million range, according to ESPN.
The signing was announced on Twitter by Sullinger.
"WE THE NORTH#0" Sullinger tweeted. He also changed his Twitter avatar to the Raptors logo and thanked the Celtics fans.
The Celtics drafted Sullinger in 2012. He averaged 10.3 points and 8.3 rebounds last season, according to Sports Illustrated. He also averaged 2.3 assists last season and has averaged 11.1 points, and 7.7 rebounds in his career.
Sullinger could start next to center Jonas Valanciunas for the Raptors in the upcoming season. The Raptors won 56 games and advanced to the Eastern Conference finals last year, making it the best season in franchise history.
