There's never been a worse time to go to the movies as the average price of a ticket has never been higher.
In the second quarter of 2016, the average ticket price was $8.73, topping the $8.70 high mark set in Q4 2015, according to the National Association of Theater Owners via Variety. In Q4 2015, the highest-grossing domestic release of all time, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, made record numbers for IMAX and had 45 percent of its tickets sold in 3D. From April through June, there's been releases like The Jungle Book, Captain America: Civil War and Finding Dory released in 3D, IMAX, 4D and the many more higher price options available.
In Q1 2016, the average ticket price was $8.58, according to Deadline.
So far in Q3, there's been The Secret Life of Pets. On the way, there's Star Trek Beyond, Jason Bourne and Suicide Squad soaking up premium screens to make Q3 another terrible time for the checking account and, maybe, the record book.
