Out with the old and in with the... old? It seems to be the theme MTV is employing as they dispose of VH1 classic and rebrand the channel as MTV Classic.
The new channel, that is sure to hit a nostalgic nerve, will debut on Monday, Aug. 1 with MTV Hour One, where MTV will literally play the exact first hour of MTV's inception in 1981.
Fans will have the opportunity to revisit their favorite shows daily when the new-old network launches. Yes, they include Daria, Beavis & Butt-head and Laguna Beach.
"MTV Classic gives audiences a modern and artful home for classic MTV programming" said the president of MTV, Sean Atkins. "Alongside MTV, MTV2, MTV Live and mtvU—rounds out a diverse portfolio with music and youth culture at its core."
MTV apparently is enjoying taking trips down memory lane, as the trailer for the much-anticipated The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now was released. In it we will watch Lauren Conrad spill secrets on the classic reality television show that redefined the genre.
Additional shows joining the MTV Classic fray are TRL, Punk'd, Run's House, Cribs, Pimp My Ride, Aeon Flux, Jackass and many more.
