Prince Harry revealed in a conversation that he did not speak about the death of his mother for a long time.
The royal Prince was at a barbecue event at Kensington Palace for his charity Heads Together, which focuses on mental health. He was talking about a man, who was a friend of a friend and wanted him to speak to his three children. Their mother had recently committed suicide and were afraid of what would happen to them in the future.
Prince Harry met with the children and was able to show them someone who could basically be “normal” and laugh after tragedy.
He also revealed in the conversation that “For the first 28 years of my life I never talked about it.” He said he was filled with “regret” for not discussing the impact his mother’s death had on him.
Princess Diana passed away in 1997 after a car crash in Paris. Prince Harry was 12 years old at the time of her death. He only recently became comfortable talking about it over the last three years.
In addition to mental health awareness, Prince Harry also has been championing HIV/AIDS awareness, just like his mother had in her life.
