Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller re-signed with the team on Friday, agreeing to the largest contract for a defensive player in NFL history.
According to ESPN, the deal is for six years and $114.5 million and Miller is now signed through the 2021 season. Miller will get a $23 million signing bonus and $42 million guaranteed. After the second year he will get $61 million guaranteed and he will get $70 million guaranteed after the third year.
Miller tweeted about the deal with a pic of himself in his Broncos jersey with the caption “FOR LIFE.”
Millers agency, Vanguard Sports, confirmed on Twitter that he is now the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
The Broncos had designated Miller as their franchise player in February and had until Friday to sign him to a long-term deal. A couple of weeks ago Miller said in a post on Instagram that he wouldn’t play under the franchise tag in 2016 ... and now he won't have to.
Miller was drafted by the Broncos in 2011. He had 11 sacks, four forced fumbles, 35 tackles in the regular season last year and had five sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception in the playoffs, Fox Sports noted. He was named Super Bowl 50 MVP as he helped the Broncos to victory last year.
Miller is a four-time Pro Bowler and has 60 total sacks in his career.
