Amber Heard gives helping hand to women and children

Amber Heard has donated the $7 million she received from her heavily publicized divorce from Johnny Depp.

Heard is donating half of the settlement to protect women from violence through the American Civil Liberties Union. The other half is going to the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles where Heard volunteers.

"I know these organizations will put the funds to good use and look forward to continuing to support them in the future," Heard said in a statement. "Hopefully, this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most."

Heard goes on to say that the amount of money, "is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future."

The ACLU released a statement thanking Heard for the support and that, "she can be confident that this gift will help other women live safely and freely.”

Paul S. Viviano, the CEO of the hospital Heard donated to, also responded to the donation.

"Her generosity will support the lifesaving treatments and cures that Children’s Hospital Los Angeles provides for critically ill children each year," Viviano said.

Heard divorced Depp, back in May, claiming he assaulted her during their time together. They started dating in 2012 and married in February 2015. Heard and Depp announced the $7 million settlement on August 16.
