Gene Wilder, the beloved actor who starred in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Young Frankenstein and countless others, has passed away at 83.
His nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman, said he died due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease, Variety reported.
Wilder had been nominated twice for the Oscars for his role in Young Frankenstein and The Producers. After guest starring in Will & Grace in 2003, he won an Emmy for his performance.
Before film, his first foray into acting was in the Off Broadway production of Roots in 1961, ten years before his beloved role as Willie Wonka.
Not only was he a gifted and talented actor, he also wrote his autobiography Kiss Me Like A Stranger: My Search for Love and Art in 2005. He also penned fiction stories.
His fourth wife, Karen Boyer, and his nephew both survive him.
In light of his death, condolences made their way onto social media.
