A spinoff of the popular E! series Botched premiered on Wednesday, Aug. 3, but not without the celebrity doctors having to defend their new series.
In the new show called Botched by Nature, Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif bring their expertise from helping patients who were “botched” by plastic surgery to helping those who were born with congenital deformities. However, some people have a problem with the show’s title and have been voicing their opinions about it via social media ever since E! began airing the series promo last month.
The doctors responded to the critics by explaining the show’s premises and why that specific title was chosen.
“It’s a spinoff… It’s the Botched experience brought to people with congenital deformities or accident victims,” Dubrow explained. “We want people to know that the Botched doctors with their 'Botched' experience and heart are applying these skills and sensibilities to people with congenital deformities. That is really what the show is about.”
Still, some have raised the question about if the word “botched” is being misused for those who were actually born with such issues.
“We’re not trying to steer away from that word,” Nassif said. “These patients from across the country, they know us as the Botched doctors.”
Dubrow added that “'Botched' is now a brand that means hope for helping your problem.”
