Indie band Sleigh Bells refuses to give pop star Demi Lovato a break for allegedly thieving their music.
Sleigh Bells slapped the "Confident" singer with a lawsuit for copyright infringement, swearing that Lovato ripped off their track "Infinity Guitars" for her 2015 recording titled "Stars."
Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller of Sleigh Bells list Carl Frank and Rami Yacoub, UMG Recordings and, of course, Lovato in the legal dispute which claims the songs are "virtually identical content."
The suit filed in California federal court on Monday, Aug. 22, alleges,"a comparison of the two songs reveals that, at the very least, the combination of the hand claps and bass drum, structured as 3 quarter beats and a rest, with the bass drum providing a counter-rhythm to the hand claps, is at least substantially similar in both works. This infringing material repeats throughout the Defendants' song."
This legal battle has been a long time coming as the music group accused Lovato of being a beats burglar in a tweet last November.
"Flattered you guys sampled Infinity Guitars and Riot Rhythm for 'Stars' but we were not contacted," Sleigh Bells confronted Lovato on Twitter.
Yacoub spoke on the allegations last year saying, "We did not use any samples in Demi Lovato's song ‘Stars'. Demi was also not involved with the production. She only wrote top line."
Lovato, currently on the Future Now tour with Nick Jonas, and her team have yet to address the pending case of copyright infringement.
