On May 24, Disney released their rescue film, The Finest Hours. The movie is action packed and has amazing special effects, which live up to theatrical Disney standards.

This film is based on the true story of a small-boat Coast Guard rescue in 1952. When a massive storm rips a T-2 oil tanker in half off the shore of Cape Cod, a small crew risks life and limb to save more than 30 sailors on board in their 12-seat rescue boat. Chris Pine plays Captain Bernie Walker of the rescue team while Casey Affleck portrays the chief engineer of the tanker.

The movie is a thrill ride from start to finish with a believable love story mixed in for good measure. All of the actors go above and beyond in their portrayals and the special effects are breathtaking. You really feel like you’re battling the storm with the characters and you care about their fates. Disney has outdone itself with this heroic tale.

Disney’s theatrical releases are usually high-quality films and this movie is no different. I’ve rated it a 4 only because I can’t give half stars. It’s definitely a solid 4.5. It’s rated PG-13 for its serious subject matter, but it would make a great family film if you have teens. You’ll want to own this one before Disney throws it back in the vault.
