On August 2, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released the new war drama, Guernica, on DVD and Digital. The story has a little of everything – romance, intrigue, villains and violence. While parts of it feel a bit forced, it’s an important tale and it definitely holds your interest.
The storyline is exciting and gives us a glimpse into a terrible time in history. Overall, the movie isn’t bad. Camera angles are used for best dramatic effect and most of the relationships are believable. However, I feel that James D’Arcy and Jack Davenport both overact pieces of the plot. The love story and death scenes feel a little unnatural because of it. On the whole, though, the movie is enjoyable.
If you’re looking for a new World War II drama, you could do a lot worse than Guernica. It’s sometimes moving and always stimulating. Pick it up on DVD or grab it from your favorite online movie retailer.
