Robert Downey Jr. may be teaming up with the creator of True Detective for an HBO drama series related to a reboot of Perry Mason.
Downey tried developing a Perry Mason film at Warner Bros. in 2011. Now, True Detective creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto is writing the idea for an HBO series with Downey to star, according to Variety. The project has reportedly been building up since May.
Perry Mason was a lawyer drama starring Raymond Burr that ran from 1957 to 1966 on CBS. It was television's first weekly one-hour continuing series.
A third season of True Detective isn't looking too good, so this would be a heck of a replacement.
Thanks to his success as Iron Man, Downey is one of the biggest names in Hollywood. He's also played Sherlock Holmes and starred in comedies like Due Date and Tropic Thunder.
