Thomas Gibson has been booted from the CBS drama Criminal Minds over his alleged altercation with one of the show’s writers.
As we previously noted, Gibson was suspended from the series after an apparent altercation with the writer who he allegedly kicked during an on-set disagreement. After things turned physical, that writer wanted to know what show executives were going to do about the actor’s behavior. His bosses first chose the suspension, but on Friday they decided to make it permanent and fired him.
"Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds," ABC Studios and CBS Studios said in a joint statement. "Creative details for how the character's exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date."
Gibson also spoke out after his departure and had this to say, "I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last twelve years. I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won't be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have."
The latest spat with the writer was not the first time Gibson is said to have gone off behind the scenes. Deadline reported that he also was involved in another altercation in the past where he ended up pushing an assistant director. After that instance he was asked to enroll in anger management classes.
Criminal Minds returns to CBS on Sept. 28.
