Veteran wide receiver Lance Moore announced on Monday that he is retiring from the NFL just three days after he signed with the Atlanta Falcons as a free agent.
Moore signed with the Falcons on Friday to compete for the number five spot behind Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu, Justin Hardy, Eric Weems and possibly rookie Devin Fuller, according to the Associated Press.
Moore told the Falcons that his heart wasn’t in it and he reflected on his career in a Facebook post saying that he "always prided myself in playing for the right reasons and respecting the game. At this point if I were to continue to play I would no longer be doing that."
Moore entered the NFL in 2005 as an undrafted free agent. He spent one year with the Pittsburgh Steelers and then was with the New Orleans Saints for nine seasons. In 2009 he won a Super Bowl title with the Saints. Last year he had a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions and had 29 catches for 337 yards and four touchdowns. He finishes his career with 389 receptions for 4,816 yards and 44 touchdowns, according to ESPN.
