WWE is looking to incorporate all sexualities into their brand.
At a Beyond Sports United event in New York City this week, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon revealed to NBC OUT that the sport genre's plans on representing the LGBT community in their broadcasts.
"We will integrate LGBT characters into our programming," McMahon disclosed. "I do think there will be an opportunity to integrate some of those storylines in the near future."
The daughter of WWE CEO Vince McMahon, also divulged that the company has not turned a blind eye to the LGBT community as she grew up "knowing gay superstars and athletes."
"It's always been accepted, but now it's about getting that message out there," McMahon continued.
It is clear that McMahon is intent on seeing her goals come to fruition as she has acquired the help of LGBT media advocacy organization, GLAAD, to guide WWE's writers to ensure that their LGBT agenda is depicted "appropriately."
McMahon also referenced WWE Hall of Fame inductee and gay wrestler, Pat Patterson's new memoir titled Accepted as she discussed her reasoning for LGBT inclusion.
"It's about his life as a gay wrestler and how from the beginning of his career he had to hide that," said McMahon.
She then went on to explain that Patterson's coming out on the WWE reality show, Legend's House, showed him receiving an overwhelming amount of support for stepping out of the closet.
