Monday's premiere of The Big Bang Theory picks up where the finale left off. Everything gets awkward when it is assumed that Leonard’s dad, Alfred and Sheldon’s mom, Mary, had coitus after they left the rehearsal dinner together. The two swear that nothing happened, but they do plan on keeping in touch. Penny and Leonard have to convince Beverley, Leonard’s mom, to even attend the ceremony as she is bothered by the situation.
Penny’s parents are also in town along with her crystal meth manufacturing brother, Randall, who just got out of jail. Her mom, Susan (Katy Sagal), is nervous about meeting Leonard’s educated parents, feeling they will look down on her “white trash” family. Penny’s alcoholic dad, Wyatt, doesn’t help with his jokes about their dysfunctional kin. Susan, however, starts to feel better after meeting Sheldon whom she finds rather peculiar.
Penny and Leonard walk down the aisle to Amy’s harp playing. Meanwhile, Alfred and Beverley banter back in forth during the ceremony while Stuart awkwardly sits between them. Sheldon, however, steps up to give a heartfelt speech where he tells Leonard he is like a brother to him. Penny and Leonard get married again, this time by Bernadette.
In tonight’s subplot, Howard is still uneasy about the email from the government he received in last season’s finale regarding his quantum gyroscope invention. He avoids answering, but then an army colonel shows up at his doorstep. Raj lies and tells him Howard is not home. Howard later gives in and sets up a meeting with the colonel, although he would not tell him what it is about. Next week's promo suggests that the meeting will occur in the next episode.
