The announcement of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie splitting up and the actress filing for divorce shocked the entertainment world yesterday and the news quickly spread like wildfire. However, one of Pitt's closest friends, George Clooney, only heard about it after a reporter asked for his thoughts while on live T.V.

Clooney was in New York City at the United Nations on Tuesday, Sept. 20 and learned that his good buddy and Jolie were getting a divorce from CNN correspondent Richard Roth.

When Roth wanted to get his take on the story Clooney asked, "What happened?"

Roth then told him about the news and the actor responded, “I feel very sorry then. That’s a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It’s an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that,” he said, adding, “This is the first I’ve heard of it.”

As we reported, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt after two years of marriage and more than a decade together. She listed the date of their separation as Sept. 15.
