As we have heard many times before the world of modeling can be a brutal one, especially due to the pressures some women in the industry are under to lose weight. Even model Kate Upton wasn’t exempt from being told to do so, but she decided instead to accept how her body is shaped.

In the October issue of Glamour, the 24-year-old opened up about how she was constantly told to shed some weight by modeling agents and even heeded that advice until she realized that she just wasn’t built that way.

“At first I tried to diet to become their image, but eventually I realized that it wasn’t realistic,” Upton explained. “This is just the shape of my body. So I had to block them out. I think that the people who are the loudest about wanting to change you are the people with the least amount of vision and creativity."

And what did they know anyway? Apparently not much since the model is known today for those gorgeous curves and has went on to grace countless magazine covers including multiple Sports Illustrated swimsuit covers.

She also believes that the world’s eyes and the whole perception of beauty has started to change.

"Things have definitely changed in the industry, mostly for the positive,” Upton said. “We’re more accepting now. For me, someone like Ashley Graham, who loves her body and is always talking about it, is inspiring.”

The beautiful blonde also dished on her future husband, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, who she announced her engagement to last May while attending the Met Gala. She admitted that her fiancé is pretty good (and much better than her) at some other sports as well.

“I was really surprised by how athletic Justin was. I wanted to learn tennis, and he goes out and he’s never played before and just beats me,” Upton admitted. “I’m thinking, ‘This is the worst.’ Who invited you?”

The issue of the mag hits newsstands on Sept. 13.
