The protests that occurred during the national anthem, which have made headlines and grown ever since Colin Kaepernick began his stance during the NFL's preseason, has its supporters and those who do not agree with the method. This Sunday though marked the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and brought out voices who felt strongly that the protests should have been halted on that particular day.

The night before the games were played on the anniversary, Rob Lowe took to Twitter and expressed exactly how he believed the NFL should handle any players who decide not to stand or kneel during the "Star Spangled Banner."

"Dear @NFL," he tweeted at the league. "Any player [who] wants to boycott the anthem on 9/11 should be asked to remain in the locker room until kick off. It's not their moment."

Social media users then pointed out to the actor that it is a player's constitutional right to choose whether or not they want to stand or take a knee in protest. To that Lowe replied, "TOTALLY agree with you. But there is a time and place. It's 9/11. Give it a rest for a day and respect the fallen."

When gameday arrived some players, including several on the Miami Dolphins, continued with the protests during the anthem and Kate Upton had something to say about that.

The model took to Instagram with a photo of those Miami players taking a knee instead of standing and slammed them for their actions.

She then posted a photo of the Seattle Seahawks, who chose to stand with their arms interlocked as a team.

Upton also posted a pic of her fiancé, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, standing during the anthem on Sept. 11 along with his reasons for doing so.

Kaepernick's team did not play on Sunday, instead the San Francisco 49ers play on Monday night and he is expected to continue the protest he started.
