Sports fans love rivalries and San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner and Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers continued their rivalry Monday, September 19.
The incident happened during the seventh inning of the game. Bumgarner fielded a ground ball by Puig and threw to first base for the out. After the out was made Bumgarner celebrated by shouting and Puig thought that he was shouting at him which led to words being exchanged and the benches clearing, according to ESPN. No punches were thrown but there was a lot of pushing and shoving.
"I just ran, and he was looking in my direction and he asked why I was looking at him, and then I asked him why he was looking at me. Every time I face him, it seems like we have those problems," Puig said. "It seems to work out because we win."
According to MLB.com, the feud between Bumgarner and Puig started in May 2014 when Bumgarner didn’t like the bat flip that Puig did after hitting a home run. Then in September 2014, Puig was hit by one of Bumgarner's pitches and he nearly charged the mound.
Bumgarner didn’t return for the eighth inning and limited the Dodgers to one hit with no walks and ten strikeouts in seven innings.
The Dodgers won the game 2-1.
