Lionsgate released Marauders on September 13, a heist movie full of twists and turns. While pieces of the film were somewhat confusing, it mostly pulled together in the end for a satisfying conclusion.

The movie starts with what appears to be a simple professional bank robbery that leaves the bank manager dead, but nothing is as it seems. As the FBI investigates, they uncover signs of corruption that lead to the bank’s owner (Bruce Willis) and his high-powered clients. Everyone seems to have something to prove from the lead agent, played masterfully by Christopher Meloni, to his underlings, the assisting police officers and even the bank robbers themselves. Everyone thinks they are out for the greater good, but who will come out on top?

Willis and Meloni both play powerful men and the dynamics between them spark. The film leaves you wondering who the good guys really are. Pieces of the subplot get confusing here and there, though, and you begin to wonder if all of it is necessary to continue the story. I think a good bit of it could have been removed for clarity’s sake, making the film more lucid. The end ties things together pretty well and makes you feel like you have a handle on most of it, but the middle confusion makes you feel like you could have enjoyed it more had it been clearer.

Overall, the film is an intelligent piece that I would recommend to viewers who love a good heist or thriller movie. I like the fact that almost no one is a straight up hero or villain. Maybe you’ll have an easier time detangling it than I did. Even with its faults, I would still rate the film 4 stars.
