Tim Tebow has signed with another orange and blue team and is headed back to New York!
Many laughed when the former NFL quarterback worked out for 28 Major League Baseball teams. Some said there was no way any team would pick him up and others figured he just wouldn’t be able to switch back to a sport that he hadn’t played in years. Well they were wrong and Tebow is the one laughing now as he has signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets.
The deal was first reported by ESPN and on Thursday morning, the Mets confirmed the news tweeting, “We have signed OF @TimTebow to a minor league contract. He will participate in the #Mets Instructional League.”
Financial terms of the deal with the former Heisman Trophy winner were not made public.
The Atlanta Braves were reportedly one of several teams also interested in Tebow, but New York ended up snatching him up first. Now, we will have to stay tuned to see how he does in the Instructional League and if he is sent to the Arizona Fall League. And then, it’s anyone's guess if he ever gets a call up to the big leagues someday. One thing that is certain is that if the 29-year-old is promoted to Double-A in the future, the Mets would definitely fill up some seats in a minor league ballpark so fans can watch the new Tim Tebow show.
