Movie makers are hoping the popularity of two film series’ will lure viewers into theaters this weekend, as sequels are the main attraction.  Seventeen years since the original Blair Witch scared audiences around the country, a follow-up film takes audiences back into the Black Hills Forest.  Bridget Jones is also back on the big screen after twelve years.

Bridget Jones’ life is turned upside down in the latest installment in the film series, Bridget Jones's Baby.  This time around the forever single woman finds out she’s pregnant but isn’t sure who the father is.  Her baby’s daddy could either be her new love or her ex.  The two hour and two minute romantic comedy stars Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, Patrick Dempsey, Jim Broadbent, Gemma Jones and Emma Thompson.  It’s rated R for language, sex and nudity.

A group of college kids head into the woods to take on the dangerous legend that is blamed for the disappearance of one friend’s sister in Blair Witch.  As they travel back to the place where she was last believed to be, they come to realize that evil really does lurk within the Black Hills Forest.  The horror film runs for one hour and twenty-nine minutes.  It’s rated R for language and terror.

A former soldier joins the CIA and exposes government secrets in Snowden.  The two hour and fourteen minute biopic shares Edward Snowden’s motive behind revealing the covert, illegal procedures the NSA was taking part in to access citizens’ personal information.  Leaking this information made him a wanted man all over the world.  Oliver Stone directed the drama.  The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Nicolas Cage, Scott Eastwood, Joely Richardson and Timothy Olyphant.  It’s rated R for language, sex and nudity.

The strong bond between a young woman and her family’s caretaker is showcased in Mr. Church.  Hired for six months to take care of a dying woman and her daughter, Henry Joseph Church ends up staying a part of their lives for years to come.  Even after the mother’s death, he looks after the now young woman who becomes the family he never had.  Eddie Murphy and Britt Robertson star in the PG-13 drama.  The film is playing in limited theaters for one hour and forty-four minutes.

This weekend, follow-up films are in the forefront.  Next weekend, a classic story heads to the big screen as The Magnificent Seven enters theaters.  Storks, a new animated family film is also available on Sept. 23.
