On September 6, Lionsgate released their new film Urge. What is supposed to be a sexy movie about the evils of complete inhibition in the human race comes off as a snuff film full of sex and violence with no real plot.

The story of Urge goes like this. Rich narcissist, Neil (played by Danny Masterson), takes his friends to an erotic club on an isolated island. There they learn of a designer drug called Urge that will release their inhibitions, but they can only take it once. After having an amazing night, they decide to spend the next night taking multiple doses. This leads them to act on their every desire including sexual acts, but mostly violence. Will any of them make it off the island before everything goes to hell?

While I normally enjoy Pierce Brosnan and Danny Masterson, this film was not their best. Brosnan plays the dealer that delivers the drug to unsuspecting club goers. He’s supposed to come off as mysterious and dangerous, but in the end just seems ridiculous. The twist in the film doesn’t really seem to have any precedent. It just sort of pops up at the end of the movie and leaves us wondering what we just spent two hours watching. The point of the film seems to be violence and sex for their own sake, leaving the intended moral behind.

If you’re into erotic thrillers with no real plot base, you might find some entertainment value in this movie. For those of you that want a real story in their film, you should probably look elsewhere.
