U.S. sprinter Tyson Gay's teenage daughter, Trinity, was fatally shot Sunday morning in Lexington, Kentucky and now police have charged three people, including a father and son, who they believe were involved in the shooting.
Reuters reported that authorities have charged 38-year-old Chazerae Taylor and his son, D'markeo Taylor, 19, with wanton endangerment as well as 21-year-old Dvonta Middlebrooks with that same count and a weapons charge.
The shooting occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday when shots were fired from at least one of two vehicles in a parking lot outside of a fast food restaurant. Detectives do not believe that Trinity was in either car, but the 15-year-old was caught in the crossfire and hit in the neck. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
"She didn't make it. I'm so confused," Tyson Gay said upon hearing about his daughter's death. "She was just here last week for fall break. It's so crazy. I have no idea what happened."
Trinity was a track star like her father and had placed in the top five in several state championships. Tyson competed in the last three Summer Olympics and was stripped of a silver medal from the 2012 Games after testing positive for a banned sustance.
