Catch up on the season premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead before this week’s recap. Last season, Ash made a deal with Ruby for a normal life in Jacksonville with his friends. On this episode, we learn just how long that will last. See the promo above.

Ruby is attacked by demons. She tries to get help from the book and seemingly summons Ash. Meanwhile, Ash is partying in Jacksonville. Pablo and Kelly work in the restaurant where he’s a big shot.

Two women approach Ash and ask to see his chainsaw arm. Suddenly, the weather changes drastically. The clouds funnel and lightning smashes through the bar. The two women jump out as Deadites and attack. Ash says there’s supposed to be a Truce. One of the Deadites tells Ash that Ruby sent them and steals his chainsaw.

The bartender is attacked and Kelly tries to save him, only to be bathed in his blood. Pablo finds the chainsaw and tosses it back to Ash who misses and is hit in the head. A Deadite tackles him and he manages to attach the chainsaw. Kelly kills a Deadite with an axe to save Pablo. Pablo is covered in gore. Ash chops the other Deadite to pieces and then shoots her in the head.

Ash and friends decide to take on Ruby. Ash knows Ruby is in his hometown because of something the Deadite sang. They head for Elk Grove, Michigan. What will they find?

Pablo involuntarily draws a demon face on a piece of paper as they enter Elk Grove. What does it mean? They pull up in front of Ash’s old house and Kelly spots someone watching them. He throws something at the car.

Ash hears an old horror movie playing in the house and investigates. A man shoots at him and accuses him of stealing. It turns out to be Ash’s estranged father. Kelly and Pablo run in armed with guns, but Ash introduces them to Brock, who hits on Kelly and asks Pablo if he has a green card. He’s obviously related to Ash. Pablo shows Brock a bad drawing of Ruby and asks if he’s seen her. Brock insults them and asks them to leave.

A homeless man appears outside and says Ash ruined his life. When Pablo offers him change, the man’s sign changes to the face of the demon he drew earlier. The man thanks him and walks away.

When Ash enters the bar, everyone goes silent. Ash hits on the waitress, an old friend, until her husband the sheriff shows up. Sheriff Emery accuses Ash of chopping up his friends and asks the people in the bar whether they should help Ash find another woman. Everyone goes crazy screaming, “Ashy slashy.” Ash stands up for himself and then walks out. How will they find Ruby if the town is against them?

Pablo sees a demon down an alleyway. He draws his gun and follows. It’s a demon version of Ruby who commands the face of the book to attach itself to Pablo’s head. He screams and tears his own face apart trying to remove it. Kelly pats him on the shoulder and when he turns around, he’s perfectly fine. He tells her and Ash about his vision. Ash recognizes the crematorium from the details in Pablo’s description.

Our gang gears up for war and enters the building. They split up and Ash’s shadow doesn’t look right. When he turns around, it attacks him then pops out in its true demon form. Ash shoots, but misses.

Kelly gets dragged away into a pit of water with a skeleton at one end. Something’s moving underneath the surface. Meanwhile, another demon attacks Pablo. Ash’s demon runs off before doing any real damage. Pablo places his hands on his grandfather’s necklace and prays. The demon seems to have lost him. It sniffs around his head and then runs away.

Kelly is attacked by a demon version of herself. It chokes her until she realizes it’s her own hands. Kelly grabs her gun and shoots the walls where she hears taunting. The walls begin to spray blood. Will she drown in it?

Ash finds Ruby hiding. She says her demon children have turned on her. They want the book. Ash tells her he wants to go back to Jacksonville when she’s suddenly stolen away by a demon.

The skeleton in Kelly’s pit starts to attack. She’s seconds from drowning when Pablo pulls her out. He’s always the unlikely hero.

Ruby’s children find her and take the book, but the face is missing from the front. It’s the wrong book. They go in to attack and Ash shoots them with his boomstick. He saws through the demon’s abdomen, but it doesn’t faze it. Ruby attacks it from behind with the magic dagger before it can destroy Ash. It kills the demon and its siblings run away. Ruby then hands the dagger over to Ash to demonstrate trust.

Ash asks Ruby for the book. She says she needs his help.
