This week on Lucifer, his mother questions his need to punish and he searches his soul for the answer.

The show begins when a man begs for forgiveness while tied to a metal pole. Someone flicks a lighter and the man screams.

Mom asks to see Amenadiel. Lucifer tells her Amenadiel would immediately take her back to hell and advises her against it. She doesn’t seem like the type to obey. Will she contact him anyway?

Trixie asks Dan and Chloe if they’re still going on their family camping trip. Chloe says they’re still working out the logistics. Dan tells Chloe they need to talk later so their troubles don’t affect Trixie.

Chloe and Lucifer find a man named Nicolas burnt at the crime scene. They murder video was posted on social media. The highest concentration of accelerant is in the groin area. Chloe thinks the killer must have had a personal grudge against the victim. An officer hands Chloe an email to Nicolas from Lila Sims, his boss at the social media company. It sounds like a threat.

Lila was upset that Nicolas was sharing evidence of their relationship because the company frowns on office romances, but she didn’t kill him. She calls for Ray in HR. She wants him to pull up a video of Nicolas at a company retreat. Nicolas lit an intern’s crotch on fire and put the video on social media. The intern, Tommy, then quit.

Tommy says Nicolas deserved what happened to him and tells Lucifer he killed him. Chloe isn’t so sure.

Charlotte appears at the precinct. Lucifer admonishes her for going out in public when her husband and Amenadiel are both looking for her. She doesn’t understand why he’d toil in the mucks of humanity. Lucifer sends her home. Will she really retreat?

There’s a new video of someone begging for forgiveness. Our heroes find a crime scene with a man’s body bound and gagged, wearing a Catholic school skirt. The victim, Adam, has been missing for two days. Cause of death is asphyxiation. His throat is full of whole apples.

Chloe searches for the victim’s phone and finds a humiliating sex video he posted on social media. The killer was punishing him for it. Where does the skirt come in? Chloe suggests maybe the woman on the video teaches at a Catholic school.

They find the teacher. She killed herself after the video went public. Lucifer says the victims of attacks got what they deserved. He leaves Chloe to solve the case on her own.

Linda meets Maze at Lux. Maze says she wants Charlotte to get what she deserves. Linda suggests she talk to Lucifer instead of taking physical action.

The social media site has lawyered up. They won’t tell the police who saw both Nick and Adam’s videos without a warrant. Chloe tells Dan she doesn’t want to do the camping trip because it would be like lying to Trixie.

Charlotte asks Lucifer why he still punishes people. Is it really his choice when it’s what his Father wanted him to do?

Lila tells Chloe no viewers overlapped between Nick and Adam’s videos. People can post whatever they want on the website, but if it’s deemed inappropriate, content moderators take them down. The moderators only last a few months because the job is so disturbing.

Chloe finds Lucifer with the moderators. He thinks the killer will have some insight into why he punishes. Chloe thinks a moderator could be their killer. Is she right?

Amenadiel is drinking his sorrows away when Maze breaks down his office door. She asks him for help getting rid of Charlotte. Amenadiel says he’ll talk to Lucifer. What will he do when he figures out Charlotte is Mom?

Lucifer says no one chooses to be a Sin-eater. Flipping through the filth of the job changes a person. He points out that the moderators in the room still have hope. It can’t be one of them, can it? A moderator tells Chloe that Lila was a moderator before her promotion. Aha! She’s not as clean as she seemed. Chloe asks Dan to trace the videos to Lila. When Chloe goes to arrest Lila, she’s gone.

Amenadiel finds Charlotte and offers to listen to her problems. She asks him if he’s a good son, why he would blindly take his Father’s side and send her back to Hell. She says she’s tired of fighting and he can take her back.

Chloe gets a notice that Lila’s going to kill herself on social media. She zooms in on a video of Lila leaving the office and sees someone with a gun in the backseat. Lila’s not the killer!

The IP traces back to the company’s main server. Chloe and Lucifer investigate the company’s basement and hear Lila talking to a camera. Ray has a gun held on her. Lila douses herself in gasoline. Chloe is afraid to shoot Ray in case he drops his lighter.

Chloe encourages Lucifer to talk to Ray. Lucifer accuses him of wanting to punish people because it felt good. He admits it under Lucifer’s thrall. He drops the lighter, meaning to kill himself and Lila both, but Chloe uses a fire extinguisher before it hits the floor.

Chloe tells Dan she’s been hard on him and she’s sorry. She wants to go on the trip for Trixie. He tells her he can’t. He doesn’t want to lie to Trixie. He asks for a divorce. Is that really what Chloe wants too?

Lucifer comes home to find Amenadiel. He’s upset, but Charlotte is still there. Amenadiel is taking a stand against their Father. Lucifer says he likes giving people their due and sentences Mom to remain on Earth as a human. She has to take over Charlotte’s life in order to be with her real sons.

On her way home, Mom is attacked by a mugger. She throws him off with supernatural strength. Apparently, she’s not as weak as we thought.
