Anne Rice has taken back the rights to the Vampire Chronicles television series adaption, making all theatrical rights her's.

The American Gothic horror novelist announced the news in a Facebook post on Saturday, Nov 26.  Rice shared the excitement of the her rights in hopes that this can now get the ball rolling for a possible adaption of the series as an open-ended TV show.

In the Facebook post Rice wrote, "A television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe. In this new Golden Age of television, such a series is THE way to let the entire story of the vampires unfold."

The author will be pairing up with her son, Christopher Rice, who is also an writer. The pair will work to develop "a pilot script and a detailed outline for an open-ended series faithfully presenting Lestat’s story as it is told in the books, complete with many situations that readers expect to see.”

As we reported, the rights were previously taken from Rice by Universal and Imagine Entertainment. This would have allowed them to claim her completed books in the series and any future books that she might write for the series.

Rice has already had two of her books adapted into film versions, which are Interview with the Vampire in 1994 and Queen of the Damned which was released in 2002.
