Ellen Degeneres is known for bringing tons of laughs to her viewers as well as her guests and her guest on Tuesday, Nov. 1, was actor Jake Gyllenhaal who appeared on the show to discuss his upcoming film Nocturnal Animals. But things took a turn off topic when the host started a conversation about Gyllenhaal being naked.
Degeneres asked the 35-year-old, “Are you naked in movies a lot?” to which Gyllenhall responded, “ Yes.”
Then things got a little crazier when she asked him to strip for her audience members. The crowd cheered at Ellen’s request which added on the pressure for Gyllenhaal. As much as he may have wanted to entertain Ellen and the audience, he preferred to do it with his clothes on. So he responded this time with a “no,” adding “I believe it’s in service of a story. I don’t just take my clothes off.”
The audience members laughed and the 58-year-old comedian was so amused by Gyllenhaal’s straightforward responses that she had to give it another try for her audience and viewers at home in hopes that he would have second thoughts. So she tried to put him in a hypothetical situation.
“When you get out of your car on the way here, you brush against some bushes, some ants go inside your shirt and you have ants in your shirt. You don’t know it yet, but I’m saying, ‘If you don’t take your shirt off, you’re going to get stung by a whole bunch of ants.’ And you go, ‘Oh yeah, hahaha,’ then you don’t take it off and you’re stung so badly you can’t work again.”
Gyllenhaal responded with, “That is darker than any movie I’ve ever made—and I’ve made some dark movies. I think I still probably wouldn’t take my clothes off.”
Ellen finally decided to give up and Gyllenhaal remain fully dressed throughout the interview.
