Looks like Making a Murderer subject Brendan Dassey won't be home for the holidays after all as his release from prison has been blocked.
Less than a week after it was announced that the 26-year-old would be released, Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel filed a motion seeking a stay pending an appeal of Dassey's 2007 murder conviction.
As we reported, in August Judge William Duffin overturned the conviction and said the inmate would walk free in 90 days if prosecutors did not refile charges. The state, however, filed the emergency injunction to keep Dassey behind bars and a three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the request on Thursday.
Dassey and his uncle, Steven Avery, were the subjects of the Netflix documentary that raised questions about the murder case of Teresa Halbach in which the two were convicted of. Many viewers believed that police coerced a confession out of Dassey, who was 16 at time and has a low IQ.
The documentary received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.
