The Simpsons make history by running on the air for 30 years.
The Simpsons are making television history since they have been renewed for seasons 29 and 30 on the FOX network. This will make them the longest running television show in history, with 699 episodes, which beats GunSmoke's record of 635.
It turns out that executive producer, Al Jean, expected The Simpsons to be a long running success since 2015.
He expressed in his interview with Hollywood Reporter, "It’s quite possible that we don’t have to go through the whole negotiation for 30. I wouldn’t be stunned if we stopped at [season] 28, but my bet is on at least [season] 30. But then you’d have to resign them again. If you made me pick one, I’d say the likeliest is ending after 30."
According to Rolling Stone, executives Dana Walden and Gary Newman have released a statement about the show's success. “This is yet another record-setting moment for what is truly a landmark series. The Simpsons’ has meant so much to the network, the studio and everyone at Fox, and its continued cultural impact around the globe is a testament to the combined brilliance of [executive producers Matt Groening, James L. Brooks and Al Jean].”
So, there you go Simpson fans, you're getting two more seasons thanks to FOX not being able to part with the show.
