On Oct. 4, Harlequin Teen books released Melissa de la Cruz’s new contemporary novel for young adults, titled Something In Between. The novel tackles the tough subject of illegal immigration with tact and grace and leaves its readers wanting to make their mark on the world.
Jasmine is a dynamic character who readers can sympathize with. She’s hard-working and determined and just wants the right to follow her dreams. Will she be able to stay in the U.S. with her family? Is this the end of her love affair with a prominent conservative congressman’s son? The characters in this novel are well rounded and really come alive as the story moves on. Readers will be inspired to work diligently and make a difference in today’s crazy world.
While the novel tied up a little too neatly for my taste, overall it was a good story. If you enjoy contemporary YA or are interested in the topic of immigration, this is an ideal read. Pick it up at your favorite bookstore today.
