After Ellen Pompeo thanked A&E for altering their KKK docu-series, some fans criticized her for tweeting with black emojis.

In response, the Grey's Anatomy star tweeted, “I’m so sad that people attacked me over standing up for equality I’m sad that people chose anger and I’m sorry if I offended anyone.”

Pompeo, 47, stated in another tweet, “Don't be a hater I do it because racism is not just a black problem it is all of our problem get it???”

The actress also noted the ridiculousness of getting “angry” over emojis.

And some on social media questioned her.

“Do you have to worry about being attacked on a daily basis because of the color of your skin?” one Twitter user asked Pompeo.

“No but I do fear for my husband constantly which is why I care about the issue,” responded Pompeo, who is married to Chris Ivery.

Pompeo's initial tweet used a black clap back and black thumbs up emoji. She had even pushed for boycotting A&E for their original title.

Following the three-hour Twitter battle, other fans are coming to the actress's defense.
