Jim Carrey's attorney has requested that the court dismiss the charges in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by his late girlfriend's mother.
ET noted that the actor's lawyer, Todd Eagan, filed a motion earlier this week to have the charges in the suit brought on by Cathriona White's mother, Brigid Sweetman, dismissed.
As we reported, Sweetman filed court docs against Carrey on Oct. 11, which allege that the comedian had a part in his on-again, off-again girlfriend's death.
In the motion filed on Carrey's behalf, Eagan described Sweetman's suit as a "shameful shakedown for money driven solely by the greed" and claimed that Sweetman is seeking to profit from her "long-estranged" daughter's death.
"Sweetman's baseless complaint against Carrey is replete with false allegations and has served to compound the devastation Carrey has experienced. Although Sweetman was White's biological mother, she was estranged from White for many years and had no relationship with White at the time of White's suicide; in that regard, she will never be able to establish damages in this action," Eagan stated.
White was found dead in her Sherman Oaks, California home on Sept. 28, 2015. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled that she overdosed on Ambien, Propranolol, Percocet and other drugs.
