The world was shocked to learn about the death of George Michael on Sunday, Dec. 25 and many celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the star. Unfortunately for Sarah Michelle Gellar, she confused his death with another singing sensation and the Twitterverse noticed.
Gellar made the honest mistake when she tweeted out a tribute but used the words of recording artist Boy George's song and used an RIP hashtag with his name instead of George Michael's name.
"Do you really want to hurt me? I guess you do 2016," she wrote with the hashtag "#ripboygeorge."
Twitter users jumped all over the actress about the blunder so she quickly corrected herself and made it clear that she does in fact know the difference between the singers and just misheard the news.
"Just as sad when you get the correct information," she then posted. "#ripGeorgeMichael thank you to everyone who corrected me - it’s still so sad. And for the record yes I completely know the difference between Boy George and George Michael- I heard incorrectly. My intentions were good."
