It is with broken hearts we announce Carrie Fisher has died at age 60 after suffering a heart attack.
As previously reported, the Star Wars actress had been traveling back to Los Angeles when she suffered a heart attack on the plane. She was given CPR before being taken to the hospital where she was joined by her daughter, Scream Queens actress Billie Lourd.
Before her death, her mother, Debbie Reynolds, announced her daughter was in “stable condition.”
Today, on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, family spokesman Simon Halls said in a statement, “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning.”
The statement continued, “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Fisher recently penned a memoir of her life in The Princess Diarist. She revealed her experiences of working on the original Star Wars in 1977, revealing an affair with co-star Harrison Ford.
In addition to the Star Wars original triology and last year’s The Force Awakens she also starred in The Blues Brothers, Hannah and Her Sisters and When Harry Met Sally.
Fisher gave birth to her daughter in 1992. Lourd’s father is Fisher’s ex-boyfriend Bryan Lourd.
When she returned to her role as Leia Organa in The Force Awakens, she received a nomination for the 2016 Saturn Award for best supporting actress.
The actress is survived by her daughter, beloved French bulldog named Gary and her mother, Debbie Reynolds.
