Warner Bros. released the film Sully to Blu-ray on Dec. 20. The true life story makes for a compelling drama as a national hero is dragged through the mud and forced to prove himself to his superiors.

Almost everyone has heard of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the man who landed a plane in the Hudson River and saved all 155 lives on board. What you may not know is that he was subsequently investigated for endangering the lives of his passengers. This movie tells the story of the landing, the investigation and how it affected his life.

Tom Hanks, as always, gives a gripping performance as Sully himself and Aaron Eckhart plays a great supporting role as co-pilot. It seems amazing to me that these two men, who saved so many lives, could be accused of putting them in peril in such a demeaning manner just because they didn’t follow current piloting guidelines. The film definitely portrays their characters as being misunderstood heroes. In trying to save face, the airline tried to throw them under the bus. The movie is emotional and informative and gives us a look at the problems with bureaucracy.

If you enjoy dramas or catastrophe movies, this might be a good choice for you. It has the thrill of a courtroom drama or disaster film, with the joy of a happy ending. Pick up a copy of the Blu-ray today for the film and several special features regarding the men of the hour.
