Dan Kay, a former contestant on CBS's Survivor: Gabon, has passed away. He was 40.
According to Kay's obituary, he died unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 31.
The Massachusetts native appeared on the show in 2008 and was the eighth person to be voted off. His obit also states that Kay's "desire to be challenged and his quest for adventure lead to his participation on the reality show."
He worked as an attorney, obtaining his bachelor's degree from UMass-Amherst and his law degree from Syracuse University. He was a member of the National Contract Management Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association.
Upon hearing the news of Kay's death, Survivor's host and executive producer Jeff Probst tweeted condolences to his family which was retweeted on the show's official account.
"I just heard the very sad news about the sudden loss of Dan Kay of Survivor: Gabon," he wrote. "The Survivor family sends our love to Dan's family.
Kay is survived by his two children, Reese Elizabeth Kay and Jackson "Jax" Russell-Reid Kay; his mother, Jean-Ann; his sister, Andrea and his girlfriend, Jennifer DePietro.
