Aired Sunday night, Iris Mittenaere, a native Parisian, took home the Miss Universe crown. It has been 64 years since a representative from France has won the international competition.
Mittenaere, 24, is a dental student who plans to use her Miss Universe platform to promote dental health and oral hygiene.
During the competition, Mittenaere praised France’s open border policy and refugee population. She said, “In France, we want to have the most globalization that we can, we want to have the biggest exchange of people that we can.”
According to Mittenaere’s biography on the Miss Universe website, she is also a fan of extreme sports, traveling, and cooking French dishes.
The contest's runners up were Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier, who took first runner-up, and Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar, who was the second runner-up.
