John Legend and Kanye West actually go way back. We're talking before John Legend, was even John Legend. Back in 2001 he was still John Stephens.

Legend had been rejected from many labels. Finally his college roommate introduced him to his cousin, up and coming producer West according to The Huffington Post.

The two still remain very friendly to this day. With West not doing so well after being hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation after cancelling his remaining dates of the Saint Pablo Tour, Legend spoke up for the singer.

Legend has opened up to The Rolling Stone about his longtime friend. A musician himself, Legend understands what a "difficult life and difficult business" that they are in.

"I don't want to try to play pop psychologist, so I'm not gonna try to analyze what's happening with him. I just want him to do whatever he needs to do to feel better and to feel like he's ready to go again, because music needs him. The world needs him," he told the magazine.

He continued to say what an "important talent" West is.

"We need him at full strength. How do you balance everything you do – acting, producing, music, fatherhood? You start with knowing what's most important to you. My family is most important and then second is music."

Family and friendship is definitely first when it comes to these two. Even their wives, Kim Kardashian West and Chrissy Teigen are close friends.
