Julia Roberts joins a star-studded cast to bring to life the Smurfs in new movie.

Smurfs: The Lost Village, set to be released April 7, 2017, features an all-star ensemble including Demi Lovato as Smurfette, Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf, Jack McBrayer as Brainy Smurf, Joe Manganiello as Hefty Smurf, Danny Pudi as Clumsy Smurf and Ranin Wilson as the villainous antagonist Gargamel. Now, the Oscar-winning Roberts has joined the project as well.

The actress told People, "Smurfs are such a fun part of our animated culture. They were popular when I was a child and they were popular when my kids were little. It's fun to be a part of such a sweet group that continues to entertain young people."

Roberts voices a new, never-before-seen Smurf character, the wise SmurfWillow. Director Kelly Ashbury, also notable for her work on Shrek 2, stated, "It was a blast working with Julia-whose real-life generous, good-natured spirit translates beautifully giving voice to this new, mysterious character."

Smurfs: The Lost Village will be Roberts' first animated project since 2006's The Ant Bully and Charlotte's Web.
