It has been announced that ABC is looking to make a spinoff of their critically acclaimed comedy black-ish. The spinoff would focus on the Johnson's eldest daughter Zoey, played by Yara Shahidi, as she heads off to college.
Deadline broke the news on Thurs., Jan. 19. The spinoff is still in its very early stages, with no script. But it is believed that there will be a backdoor pilot episode on this season of black-ish in the spring.
The spinoff makes sense as the comedy has been following the 17-year-old Zoey while she concentrates on her future. She even landed an internship at Teen Vogue this season.
The Zoey-centric sitcom would be overseen by black-ish's series creator and executive producer Kenya Barris.
This is not the only ABC comedy that is in talks of landing a spinoff. E News! reports that the network's other hit sitcom The Goldbergs is looking for a spinoff, centering around the life of the high school gym teacher, played by Bryan Callen.
Catch black-ish on ABC every Wednesday at 9:30.
